CSCI 322 Fall 2 Homework ? Unit 6 Homework 6

Learning Outcomes- FOLLOW THE GENERAL HOMEWORK DIRECTIONS! 1. Manually bind simple data to web server controls and to out put the data on the web

page.

2. Use SQL and C# to create web pages to manually manage your data

(selecting, inserting, updating and deleting data)

3. Use command, connection and dataset objects and the DataAdapter, DataTables and

DataRows to manage data. Part 1

Learning Outcome 1. Manually bind simple data to web server controls and to out put the data on the web page

Directions

A) Provide the version of Visual Studio and SQL Server in the word document.

B) In the main menu, create a menu item named Database in the web.sitemap file. For each new page

in this homework, make sure there is a link to the page in the main web.sitemap file so that the links

will be displayed in the main menu. Make sure the menu or treeview you used, is formatted so that

it is easy to read and well-styled. Below is a sample of what you would do. Each time you create a

new page in this homework, add a link in the Database submenu. Provide a screen shot of the

sitemap file, as well as how the menu looks in your browser with this submenu shown!

In this

example retrieve your data with the connection, command and reader objects and display the data

in a control.

Binding to a List Control- RadioButton

1. Create a page named RBLFoodList.aspx with the menu displayed as Pet Food List.

2. In the design view, insert a RadioButtonList control named rblFood.

3. Set the properties of the control so the number of columns is 3.

4. In the RBLFoodList.aspx.cs page, define a list (or array) named lstFood.

1. Create a page named DDLFoodList.aspx with the menu displayed as Pet Food List.

2. In the design view, insert a DropDownList control named ddlFood.

3. In the DDLFoodList.aspx.cs page, define a list (or array) named lstFood.

4. Insert this data into the list.

5. Display the data returned in a DropDownList control in the browser

Part 1 Submission

1. Take a screen shot of the RBLFoodList.aspx and DDLFoodList.aspx in the browser showing

the list and place it in Part 1 of the Word document.

2. Take a screen shot of the markup and CS code for both RBLFoodList.aspx and

DDLFoodList.aspx.

Learning Outcome

2. Use SQL and C# to create web pages to manually manage your data

Directions

1. Create web pages to manage the Categories table. Make sure to update the Database submenu as

described earlier.

a. CategorySelect.aspx (Select Category) will only display the data from the category page.

So, manually write the code using the connection, command and reader that display the

simple list of categories in a dropdown list control! b. CategoryInsert.aspx (Insert Category) will be used to create a new record. The form,

which you create, contains fields for each of the fields in the Categories table. When the

user clicks on the submit button, you will create a new SQL statement and insert a new

record in the Categories table. Once the data is inserted, display a message that the record

was inserted successfully and the values that were entered, formatted nicely!

c. CategoryUpdate.aspx (Update Category) will retrieve the list of categories and populate

them in a dropdown list. When the user selects a category, the data for that category is

populated in the update form. The form you create contains fields for each field in the

Categories table. When the user clicks the submit button, once the data is updated, display

a message the record was updated successfully and updated values formatted nicely!

Reference: http://www.devmanuals.com/tutorials/ms/aspdotnet/updatedataindatabase.html d. CategoryDelete.aspx (Delete Category) will retrieve the list of categories and populate

them in a dropdown list. When the user selects a category, the data for that category is

immediately deleted from the database. Once the data is deleted, display a message that

the record was deleted successfully and deleted values formatted nicely!

Part 2 Submissions

1. Take screen shots and insert in Part 2 of the Word document for the CategorySelect.aspx page

showing the list of Pets, CategoryInsert.aspx showing the category was inserted,

CategoryUpdate.aspx showing the category was updated, CategoryDelete.aspx showing the

category was deleted.

2. Take a screen shot or copy the code for each code file (CS files) for each of these pages into

part 2 of the Word document. CSCI 322 Fall 2 Homework Part 3

Learning Outcome 3. Use command, connection and dataset objects and the DataAdapter, DataTables

and DataRows to manage data

Directions

A) Create a new page named DataSet.aspx named Customer DataSet in the web site menu.

B) Use the DataAdapter, DataSet and DataTables to manage the Products table.

a. Create Connection object b. Create the SQL Statement to retrieve the Products table

c. Create a Command Object d. Create Data Adapter

e. Create DataSet f. DataAdapter Fills DataSet with a table g. Rotate through DataRows in DataTables and display the data!

Part 1 Submission

1. Take a screen shot of the DataSet.aspx in the browser showing the list of customers in Part 3 of

the Word document

2. Take a screen shot or copy the CS code from the DataSet.aspx into the Part 3 of the Word
