Project 1: Satellite-Image Interpretation (El Niño/La Niña) http://www.elnino.noaa.gov/ Go to this website and choose images would show and El Niño and I La Niña conditions. Once you have
done this, explain what conditions constitute at both situations. What are the consequences for the
Eastern and Western Pacific during both of these conditions? Be sure to include the images you have
selected with your answer. Why is the El Niño also called the Southern oscillation? Now find an image which shows the wind conditions along the surface of the Pacific during these two
phenomena. Then find another image which shows the sea surface height anomaly during an El Niño
event. Now, once you have done this, explain what is meant by anomaly. This project is worth 11% of
your final grade
