Unit V Article Critique
Locate and read the following articles:
Gregg, G. L. (2011). Unpopular vote: Enemies of the Electoral College aim to scrap the Founders' design.
The American Conservative, 10(12), 33+. Retrieved from http://www.amconmag.com
Underhill, W. (2012). Changing up the Electoral College? State Legislatures, 38(1), 9. Retrieved from
For your article critique, be sure to carefully read the two assigned articles and write a response essay of
at least 500 words.
Your essay should address each of the following: Explain how the Electoral College currently works. Explain the "winner-take-all" system of
electoral vote allocation within 48 of 50 states.
Comment on the two (2) alternative methods that have been proposed to reform the Electoral
College. Explain the pros and cons, as discussed in the articles, of both.
Articulate your personal opinion on whether these reforms should be implemented. Is it right (or
necessary?) for reform advocates to circumvent the Constitution on this matter? Your essay should be well thought out and include direct references to the articles. Limited direct quotes
are permitted. All references (paraphrased or quoted) should be correctly cited using APA format.
Please use proper APA standards for formatting and citing/referencing the information in these articles,
and in any other outside source that you use. Please let me know if you have any questions as you
complete this assignment!
